8We had the opportunity to stay at this hotel for two nights. We really liked the location - it is close to the Gothic Quarter, with all the interesting sights, restaurants, etc. There is a fair amount of noise in the night from outside given that it is close to all the action. It did not bother us, but it might bother some people. The room was modest in size, but clean and comfortable. Our only complaint was that we found the bed a little hard. A basic continental breakfast is available off the lobby; the selection was not large, but more than enough to fuel-up before heading off for the day. The staff was friendly and helpful. We would stay here again for sure.
Younger sister of the near-by 4 star Hotel Colon, this hotel is actually cheaper, but not cheap.
To its defense one should mention its strategic position: on the edge of the old gothic quarter, just a stone's throw from the cathedral, the Catalunya square, the Ramblas, with numerous possibilities for shopping and eating in the area.
The rooms and the public spaces are tastefully decorated, with an elegance that reminds one of older times. Stay there, if you value aesthetics and old world charm over modern design. Also, having said that, I wouldn't mind some extra amenities in the rooms.
Despite the constant flow of tourists in the cathedral square, the hotel is quiet as it is located on a side street, but as the building is old, the partitions between the rooms doesn't offer sufficient sound isolation.
The hotel is pet friendly.
Great location. Rooms were well maintained and staff was friendly. A little dated but that wasn't too much of a problem for me. The big downside to this hotel was the lack of air conditioning in the rooms. If you aren't coming to Barcelona in the summer, this would be a fantastic hotel. But during the summer heat the lack of air conditioning really started to become a problem. Other than that, it was great!
The staff was very helpful and nice, breakfast was decent, the hotel was clean, they had a safe in the room, the showers were decent and had great water pressure, and the location was absolutely excellent. The AC also worked very well in our room.
The downsides were slow WiFi and one of the most uncomfortable beds I've ever slept in. I really wanted to reduce my rating of this place based off the bed being one of the worst beds I've ever slept on, but decided not to. When I go camping and sleep on the ground it's more comfortable than these poor excuses for a bed, and the pillows were not great either. The rooms are also very loud from the noise on the streets and the paper thin walls where you can hear everything your neighbors are doing. I had a really hard time sleeping here and would not suggest this place to anyone for this reason, but everything else was very excellent (other than the fact of not sleeping well at a place you are coming to sleep at).
