Park Güell, Barcelona

After reading the reviews, we climbed the million-or-so stairs to reach the summit of Mount Güell and bask in the glory of this 5-star attraction. We did this only to be told that the next available entry time was 17: 30 (this was at about 11: 00), so we bought tickets for the next day and found an easier route back to sea level. The following morning, we made the ascent, again, this time by bus (top tip: go by the 24 bus, rather than the Metro) and strolled into the park expecting great things. We were there at 08: 30 and it was already heaving. We wandered around unimpressed, queued for 25 minutes to look in an unimpressive house, with the most inept signage I’ve ever encountered (e.g. We walked into a room, with a sign confirming that we were, indeed, in a ‘room’) and then strolled around the park, which should have taken about 20 minutes, but took more like 40 due to people blocking paths on important Instagram business. We were told by a security guard not to eat. In a park. Don’t eat in a park. I could understand if we’d set up a hog-roast, but it was only a sandwich. In all, this is poorly-organised, over-crowded, quirky-for-the-sake-of-it tosh. The surrounding (free) areas are lovely and the views of Barcelona are great, so it’s worth the trip, but the monumental area was a monumental palaver - you can see most of the stuff from the road anyway. To reduce disappointment, book in advance; to avoid it altogether, don’t bother.

Em termos de arquitetura é dos melhores, monumentos de Barcelona. O parque é lindíssimo e a vista do miradouro vale ouro. Exige um bocadinho de caminhada mas vale bem a pena.

Nice walk round the gardens didn't pay to go in the main part though. Plenty of people selling ice cold drinks if you need one! Great view over Barcelona
