Not a five stars because one has to give space to improvement: but with decimals it would be a 4.7.
Very simpathetic and helpful service. Very tasty meals, to share or to eat as a main course. Good spanish bottle bear. Very welcoming atmosphere. I certainly will come back in a next trip.

Adoramos a taberna El Sur, fomos muito bem atendidos e a comida era divinal! Era de fácil acesso e os colaboradores foram rápidos e atenciosos.

Havia muita gente à espera mas a dinâmica de atendimento fez com que se passasse rápido.

It was amazing. My friend and I went there a couple of weeks ago while traveling and ordered some food with one sangria to share as the staff recommended. And we ordered one more for each just right after we had tasted it. (even though we can’t consume alcohol, lol!) It was great! And we canceled our guided tour at Prado and enjoyed the food and drinks! And the staffs were really nice

Lovely service and great food! The photo shows one portion of Croquettes and a half portion of Jamon Iberico, we were too busy enjoying the rest of the food to take photos.

Eccellente. Si mangia bene a prezzi adeguati. Personale gentilissimo. Siamo andati per pranzo e torneremo per cena. Probabilmente andremo a mangiare tutti e 5gg.da El Sur. Ero così contento che ho lasciato una lauta mancia.

La comida es excelente, increíble, de una calidad elevadísima, al menos los platos que pedí. Además el personal es muy amable. Sin duda merece lo que vale.

Lo único a tener en cuenta: es un sitio pequeño que se llena mucho con muchísima facilidad. Pero con lo que ofrece, no es de extrañar.

Sangría deliciosa. Sus raciones son siempre abundantes y muy ricas. En algunos casos tienen medias raciones, que se agradece, tanto cuando quieres compartir y probar varios platos como cuando lo que quieres es picar un poco. Muy buen precio. Todos los camareros son muy agradables y atentos

Fantastic! Had dinner here last night with my niece, Kate. We had the tortilla, garlic prawns, squid, cesar salad and the pork cheeks. Everything was delicious, truly. And the price was right. Do yourself a favour and visit here, you won’t be disappointed. We were so happy with our meal we are going back for more tonight!

Very nice and cozy place, a little small but they try to make the most of it. The food is very delicious and you can order half portions and try more food. We had the Tortilla, spinach quiche, tomato cream soup, a Caesar salad and the curry chicken and everything was very tasty. Even the baguette served for free was so good! We liked the sangria, but are by no means experts on this. People were a mix of tourists and locals, guess it is no longer a secret. Absolutely recommend the place.

Tutto ottimo. Camerieri gentili. Attesa una mezz'oretta durante la quale abbiamo sorseggiato una sangria al banco. Appena liberato un tavolo per noi abbiamo potuto ordinare i piatti del giorno. Tutto ottimo anche il rapporto qualità prezzo.

Las tartas siguen siendo la bomba, eso no ha cambiado.la carta y los platos siguen siendo los de siempre, pero la última vez que estuve sentí que bajó un poquito la calidad en los sabores.

Amazing tapas. Delicious cocktails. Extremely friendly staff. My boyfriend and I got there and asked how much the wait for two would be. The cute and friendly server said 15 minutes only to be seated 5 minutes later. Great cozy atmosphere. Extremely affordable. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Went there 3 times. One of the best restaurant in Madrid. Delicious food for a fair price. Weekday lunch menu at ~10€ includes starter, main dish and dessert or coffee. Quick and friendly staff. Lots of people during the weekend, you might have to wait outside. Very good risotto, ropa vieja and cheesecake. I've tried various tapas, never got disappointed. A must-try!

This was an amazing place to go to for tapas and drinks! While we waited at the the bar to get seated, we got to interact with the most amazing bartender ever - Peter Hernandez. We started out just ordering drinks at the bar, but it was so nice sitting there that we had our meal there too and forgot about getting a table! The sangria is amazing and is a must try here. We saw the bartender make at least 30 of those delicious drinks served in mason jar like glasses. Apparently they serve over a hundred sangrias every night: O The service at Taberna El Sur is spectacular - I got a second sangria on the house, and the bartender even brought us two shots of a baileys-like drink at the end of our meal! We left feeling so special and happy:)

About the food - the tapas and main courses are really tasty and well portioned. We got the moussaka, patatas bravas, spanish omelette and a chilled tomato soup (all the tapas but the quiche basically) and each one was a star! I am trying to pick a favorite, but I really can't pick between the moussaka and the patatas bravas, both of which were unforgettable! We also got a chicken curry that was great.

Overall, if you are in the area or even close by, Taberna El Sur is definitely worth your time and money! Go there, and I hope you have as great a time as we did eating, drinking and enjoying being in Madrid!

PS. There's no problem if you don't know Spanish, the menu is in English and the staff are all very tourist friendly. The prices are great too!

After reading some of the reviews this place seemed a must for our last lunch in Madrid.
The restaurant did not disappoint. We loved the garlic prawns & best paella we have eaten in Madrid.
Yes the Sangria was also amazing. Thanks to very efficient staff & menu with English descriptions. Great lunch!
