Hotel Santa Susanna Resort, Barcelona

Just came back from 6 nights here. Personally I can't see why the poor reviews. Originally a German beer Keller so you can see that as soon as you see the hotel so it's very traditional. Clean and tidy threw out. Food not to bad and we managed to find something to eat every day. Even had peppered steak. Drinks standard but enough for anybodys taste. Rooms basic but clean and you don't go on holiday to sit in a room all day. Personally I really enjoyed this holiday and can't complain for the price we paid. If your looking for total luxury do not choose here and pay another £500 somewhere else. If you want a good holiday for a great price you can't go wrong. Will be definitely going again.

Only giving one star as some of the staff were lovely and helpful. I would never ever come back to this hotel! Ruined my first holiday aboard with my fiancė! Food was disgusting, we ate here for the first couple of days and became very ill. We stopped eating here and we got better. We also heard this from a lot of people here that they got food posioning. On their website it states buffet style food, this was not the case, hardly any choice, not enough room for how many people can stay here and people just put their hands all over the food and some even put it back afterwards! Parents don't care what their children are up to, so they run up and down the corridors until late at night, pour drinks all over the floors, mess around with the lifts and you can't even walk up and down the stairs. Their website is completely different to what it is like when you get here! Says there is an adult pool and kids pool, nope! Kids take over the whole of the hotel! Says not to reserve sun loungers, although this happened everyday. Had no sleep the first couple of nights because of the noise, the screaming (screeching!) and banging, eventhough it says it is forbidden to make noise after 12am. And Until we complained and they were moved. Their website stated that it was great for couples and families. Wrong again! We met 3 families while we were here and they all share the same views as us! The drinks are always the same, so does get boring after a while. The cleaners were good, your room gets cleaned everyday, fresh towels and toiletries, although they keep the same bedding on throughout your stay. They also just walk into your room, so be careful you aren't still sleeping or not dressed. There isn't much to do at the hotel all together, the entertainment is pretty basic and never anywhere to sit, unless you go outside but then you can't listen or hear it. I would never stay here again ever and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone!

Wouldn't even give it 1 star. Most of the staff were rude, unhelpful. Food was terrible, no air con in a heat wave. Have to pay for fans, cots, fridges. It's ridiculous. Couldn't pay me to go back. Only 2 good points - free train to the town and the swimming pool was good

Good bits:
Food decent with a good range to choose from.i ate fresh fish and salads throughout my stay. It does get a bit boring after a week but overall very impressed with quality.
Staff are freindly and happy to help out.
Blanes is a spot near to santa sussana and they have a club where u can purchase your greens (wink wink).
Very clean hotel a bit dated but staff are always making sure the place is spotless.
You dont have to wait long for drinks at all.

Average stuff:
Location could be better but about 15 minutes walk to beach and the front. The free motor train is ok and very regular offering trips into the mountains as well.
Drinks are average and all in little plastic cups which is ok for a few days.not a massive choice but staff happy to try accomodate your needs.
Snack bar is ok for food but can take a while to get anything.staff are a little less enthusiastic than inside.probs down to the heat outside. Toasties are nice and burgers and hotdogs seemed fine.

Bad bits:
The double beds are very uncomfortable and hard. The single beds are more comfy but i would advise taking a mattress topper or something. I used the spare covers in the wardrobe and made like 6 layers of sheets to top the matress.it helped!
Some of the other guests are a bit fruity (like me) but overall very good people.yes i heard some crazy conversations.seen people use more salt on food than i thought was possible (want some food with that salt pal?) Heard a few fights through the night but you know alcohol and brits dont mix. Seen a few pretentious people walking around with nose turned up but u cant be pretentious then book a 3 star hotel mate.expectations out weighing the wallet n all.

Tips:
When craving coffee, get the cappuchino instead of white coffee.white coffee was like coffee flavored milk.
Dont worry about rushing to get your dinner or tea, always space and enough food to choose from.
Get the fridge for 30 euro as it locks n doubles up as a safe.if u trust it.
We got the fan as well and we used it next an open door to allow fresh air to flow a bit better.
They pour big shots but dont taste very strong- the supermarket next door has very well priced liquor if the hotel booze dont do it for u.
Get a kettle for your room from the supermarket for like 10 euro.
Take a mattress topper (if u can).
Seats can be a little limited on evenings outside.always managed but a few times found no space.
If flying to barcelona airport get a transfer.train with kids not fun.you will not regret paying extra to save the hassle. We came on train then quickly paid transfer for return leg.
Go to the water park in loret de mar.well priced and loads of fun for kids.
Utilise the free packed lunch the hotel provides.let them know day before and they will sort you out with sarnies, fruit and water.

Overall was very good value for money and a friendly place to spend your holiday. We got our moneys worth in food and drinks alone. Happy to answer any questions you folks have?

Nice hotel with amazing friendly staff nice selection of food and a snack bar for inbetween meals if you happen to miss a meal time a wide range of local and imported drinks to it is a well kept clean and hygienic hotel for families and couples a short walk to the beach and town centre and some nice locations to walk to we have been three times and enjoy going back and will continue it is well worth trying you won't be disappointed

Hi all and hope this helps just returned from santa Susanna and I can tell you food same every day times for meal are not set, read the small print manager reserves the right to change time Evan on the pool opening times and closing beds made every day but don't get changed the hotel is a good 20 mins walk, people being sick.not easy to see pool depth, this is a 3 star should be 2 really poor food cold, staff can be nice, rooms are ruff, all inclusive but 1 channel itv and its 20 euros for remote don't always get a balcony, I saw people leaving.offer to others hotels as were not happy at all, kids entertainment very poor. 60and 80 music and yes the birdie song.drinks watered down, 11 o'clock bar but people still shouting till 2.hot tub not heated nor the pool, seas actually warmer, o and yes I've been bit to death. Party of 14.owner, nice red Porsche hotel right on the motorway noise.having to eat out.hope this helps you.

3rd time back here, laughing at all the negative reviews. Place is spotlessly clean, staff are so helpful and accommodating. Food choice and quality is brilliant, can't believe some reviews slate it. All inclusive bar closes at 11 but unlike other ai places we've visited they don't restrict how many you can have on your table. This leads to queues from 10.30 or so and unfortunately LOTS of drinks piled up gone to waste, shame. All in all we (a family of 4) find this place an ideal destination and will certainly be returning.

Terrible spent 6 out of the 7 days out there was smoking round the pool very jeremy kyle seen was put off by the alchol as everyone drank and let there kids go wild yeah will strongly recommend you don't go here. I spent £800 on just days out which was more than the holiday was worth

Very bad experience. The rooms are small and dirty. The manager in the reception extremely rude and unprofessional. In general very unpleasant place to stay. Wouldn't be back ever even if it is for free

It would get 3 stars but for the noise level at night which is horrendous, slamming of doors kids running about till 2pm in the morning, we've been here for 10 nights and haven't had a good night's sleep since we arrived, am going home more tired than when I left. Having said all that the staff are very friendly and helpful always, the food is of a good quality and varied, be prepared to pay extra for fans/safe/TV remote/fridge you get nothing for free, pool entertainment for the kids is also good and goes on all day again the pool staff work very hard, again the only issue for us was the noise trust me it is BAD!

We recently had a 10 day break here and thought we would give a review.
There were a few small negatives that I will mention purely for the sake of honesty but didn't really impact our enjoyment overall.
When we arrived there was a problem with our reservation. The hotel said it was our travel agent and our travel agent said it was the hotel. The reception staff weren't that bothered to help refusing to look at any emails sent from our agent. It got sorted after 2 hours but we had been travelling since 4am in 35 degree heat and this was now 5pm. Hot and bothered wouldn't even begin to describe it.
The other thing was the bar closing at 11pm. Even in nanny state Britain we stay open later than that now. It just meant people hoarding drinks at 10 to 11 like the old days. Bit silly really.
Now to the main part.
The hotel is lovely and clean and an interesting Bavarian style. We had no air con but it seemed everyone just slept with their balcony doors open so to be honest it didn't bother us too much. The location is a bit weird, sort of in the middle of 2 industrial parks but is landscaped so well that when you are in it you can't tell. Also having a hypermarket one side and a lidl the other was brilliant for any bits we needed.
The service of the drinks is simply fantastic, the staff worked so hard and I think I queued once for 5 minutes, apart from that you walk into the bar with 2 empty glasses and walk straight back out with full ones. The beer was better than other 3 star places we have stayed and my wife enjoyed the spirits on offer too without feeling rough in the morning.
I found the food to be excellent too, maybe not as much choice as some places I've been but everything there was very nice. Big pans of mussels one day and beef ribs another. Sometimes we forgot it was just a 3 star.
The pool area was great for the kids with 2 main areas. A normal pool and a kids pool with slides and water features. There was a kid's jacuzzi as well. My kids are 12 and 13 so went inbetween the 3, whilst my wife and I sat on the lovely veranda they have overlooking the pool enjoying some peace.
There is also a snack bar next to the pool that was open most of the day doing cheese and ham toasties, hamburgers and chips and was busy all day.
The entertainment guys and girls were always busy doing stuff for the kids and hosting water polo matches. Even in the evening they were coming round doing magic tricks which was a nice touch.
All in all I would recommend this hotel to anyone with a family.
