Dear Helhousing,

Through this message, I would like to express my dissatisfaction with how you treat tenants. I rented a room from you from November to February. I lived in a flat with 12 bedrooms. All the flatmates who lived here were very nice and sociable. However, the facilities were not very good but that was made up for by the nice people who lived there. The only thing I'm not happy about is my flat manager and how she deals with things. I think it is almost criminal how she has taken money from me.

It all started when I said that I might want to move. Then I said, I may want to book my room but I will let you know in three days. Then I was told that it was all right. Then two days later I was told that my room had been let to someone else and that I had to go somewhere else. Then I was sent all kinds of options of rooms. Of course, I did not agree to this because I did not like it. I understand that you want to fill as many rooms as possible, but I expect a bit of transparency from an organisation such as Helphousing.

Then came the following which I was very dissatisfied with and really find unacceptable. While moving a sofa, the leg broke off. I then made the bench again. While making the bench, I saw that there were nails in it that didn't belong there. This made it clear that the bench had already been broken once. A month after I had fixed the broken sofa, it broke down again. I then explained all this to the flat manager and was fined by HELPHOUSING for the entire broken sofa including shipping costs. They also charged me for putting the sofa back together. After many messages back and forth, I really had to pay and an amount of 326 euros was deducted from my deposit. In the screenshots below I show how the apartment manager Olga reacted to this. She doesn't want to know anything about this and I just have to pay. This is a criminal way of dealing with tenants. A very easy way to take money from students who speak poor Spanish. I hope that I can convince other people to work with Helphousing. In the end I was also charged extra because I did not put the right plates and glasses in my room. While everyone in the house uses everything. All this together has cost me 338 euros while as a student I don't have much money. I think it is not acceptable and I am very disappointed in Helphousing. Besides this I also find it unacceptable that you employ people like Olga who just don't listen to tenants. And such messages as the one below.

If you want to get in contact with you have my information.

Kind regards,

Wichard Boon

I asked for my deposit back after I left the city and the person who dealt with me, her name was Beatriz, invented stories so she could keep part of my deposit. I left 200 euros and she only returned 150 euros to me.

Grazie mille!

I have been renting a flat from September 2019- April 2020. From the moment I signed the contract online Help Madrid have been wonderful and so helpful, letting me know what was happening at each step of the way! They are always willing to help and very pleasant to deal with. My flat manager during the Covid crisis went above and beyond sending my belongings back to England via a parcel service, this saved me so much time and money. I would highly recommend help Madrid as a student or young professional working in Madrid!

I rented a room through helpHousing and was overall pleased with them! My flat managers were first Jennifer and then Katharina, both were very friendly and helpful. Communication was good and I liked the personal webpage you get that shows you all the payments. When my housekeys were stolen (on a Sunday) and I needed a new set they were fast to respond and I was able to collect them within a few hours.

Terrible service, very poorly organized and they blame you for everything. The first day I arrived to the office there were so many people waiting and nobody knew what to do, also prepare yourself to pay more than you thought, they charge you the deposit, the "service" that they offer you which is lousy and finally the monthly rent, if you want know how much they charge you multiply the cost of the month x3.
The manager of my apartment did not speak English well, for me it was not a problem (my first language is spanish) but my roomies had a lot of problems with him. One of my roomies was late with her monthly payment since the manager had not provided the link to make the payment online, he was also gonna send it to me but since I was paying in cash I had no problems, but of course my roomie had, they blamed her and didn’t have any kind of consideration with her, of course she had to pay extra for the delay. Regarding that they blame you for everything, It was my first week in the apartment when the glass from the oven separated from the frame and we were charged to fix it like €30 each (there were 8 of us), the following week we saw the cleaning girl cleaning the oven with something similar to a screwdriver for what we thought she was the one who broke it, when we told the person in charge of the apartment he told us that it couldn’t have been her since she has an insurance in case she broke something in the apartment, I don't know about you but the hole situation seemed very strange to me. In short there were many other problems, the truth is I do not recommend this company, it still needs to improve the treatment of its clients, there are many others places that you can find to live in Madrid, good luck.

On my year abroad I used helphousing Madrid and found it incredibly accommodating and helpful. It was easy to find a room and to sign into it with the help of the staff. My room was lovely, had no problems and was 30 seconds from the centre of Madrid. My flat manager Jenifer was always quick to reply to queries and helped in any way that she could. I would definitely recommend using helphousing if you are going to do a year abroad.

My house manager Jennifer really helped me alot during covid-19. She was patient and made sure that my stuff was safe. Also i could always just text if there was a issue in the house and it would be fixed in a few days! Really professional and nice!

DON'T RENT WITH THEM!
HORRIBLE and UNPROFESSIONAL agency. Their staff (or at least, Olga) doesn't speak a good english, which makes it impossible to have a proper conversation with them. Me and two friends wanted to book three rooms in one of their flat (P42_1D), we made the payement of the deposit but apparently the agency never received the money (which was taken from our account, obviously.). They canceled our reservations two days before the day we were supposed to arrive and kept the money.
They sent us screenshots of bank statements from their previous tenants so be careful when you sent them bank statements. They might sent it to complete strangers after.
I don't even talk about their agency fees which are complete rip off.
They are LIARS, UNPROFESSIONAL, RUDE and AGRESSIVE in their emails (especially Olga).
You can find many other options to rent in Madrid, for a cheaper price, with nicer landlords and a better location.
I wish I could grade them 0 star.

My experience with helpHousing was great. They were always quick to respond to my queries before arriving in Madrid and I was impressed by the accommodation when I got there. Catherina was very friendly and would always get back to me quickly if I was having any problems in the flat / if I had any issues with getting documentation etc sorted in Madrid. Would definitely recommend!

I had some problems at the beginning because I gave them the wrong phone number. Turns out they use primarily WhatsApp to communicate with you instead of mail, which I didn't know. I wish they had answered my mail sooner. But all in all, it was very pleasant to be their customer, once we found what the problem was.

You get an account to their website, where your expenses are very transparently listed and you can pay your bills online. You're also added to a group chat with the flat manager and your flat mates, which made it really easy to communicate problems with the flat or ask questions where everyone can read the answer. I really appreciated this service because they also sent us information via this chat. During my stay, our flat manager changed from Alejandra to Jenifer. Both were very helpful, especially Jenifer, because my move-out date was during the corona pandemic.

They also have a representative from Citylife Madrid at their office, who got me an appointment at the public transport office for the Tarjeta de Transporte Público (I would recommend doing that online, though, two weeks BEFORE you come to Madrid). You can also book trips to other parts of the country with Citylife Madrid. Very nice.

I thought my flat near the San Bernardo metro station was too good to be true, but it was actually as good as it looked on Uniplaces. (Don't book via Uniplaces, though; you have to pay an additional fee. Book directly from helpHousing's own website!) Every week, they sent someone to clean the common area, and if something was broken or a flatmate asked for something to be repaired, they sent someone the next day to not only repair this particular thing but also to make sure that everything else was in order. All in all, they keep their flats in very good condition. They're not luxurious, but I didn't lack anything. I think the price was actually very reasonable, because I got to live very near to the centre and the flat was fully furnished (all IKEA). We even had a TV and super fast wi-fi with multiple access points in the flat!

So, yes, I really can recommend helpHousing Madrid. It made a lot of things much, much easier in an environment were I didn't know anyone. I'm really glad I found them, because it was really hard to find a flat.

One of the most expensive and worst services you can get, ridiculous admin fee and policies. Funny how they put affordable in their service's description. Low sense of privacy of the tenants and absolutely nonsense maintenance procedures. Avoid!

I stayed here for a couple of months and really enjoyed my apartment. It was a central location and the team at helpHousing (especially Katherina!) were incredibly helpful. I'd recommend HelpHousing to international students that want to book a guaranteed safe and reliable place to stay in advance of their arrival.
